Pedestrian "Banging Down" a Motorist
Sunday, August 31, 2008
I was waiting at the bus stop outside of Sim Lim Tower yesterday afternoon. The down pour that started 15mins before that was then reducing its strength but had not exactly turned into a drizzle yet.
As usual, that road was congested with lots of vehicles trying to get into the city on a Saturday afternoon. An Indian lady, slightly bigger than I am, was trying to cross the road from opposite side of the road from where I was, attempting to move quickly to the bus stop and out of the rain.
She braved through 4 lanes of vehicles that were coming to a stand still due to the turning of red light less than 50meters ahead. The last lane that she was about to cross seemed easy as it was the bus lane and no law-abiding, kiasee Singaporean would be driving in it unless he/she is a bus driver.
The Indian lady started her dash across the road as she looked far down the road and saw that no bus was coming down that lane. You know the saying "you don't see what you are not looking for"? That was exactly what happened to her, she didn't see a motorcycle approach her as the rider was riding in between the lanes. As she took her first step, the motorcycle came in front of her and I saw her literally PUSHED the motorcycle down!
She then went off with a slight limp, seemingly from a sprained ankle. The motorist didn't seemed injured, but he crashed his side mirror and had to push his bike to the side of the road because it wouldn't start after that.
The poor man.
